run
I don't intend to beat you down with this, but I will tonight. It is my blog, after all.
I ran 5 miles tonight, which is a big number for me. It's been a while.
I don't know why it didn't hurt. Something about it just kind of
clicked. I'm hoping it will be even more pleasant after I get some new
shoes (all purchases are temporarily on hold).
A couple of noteworthy things:
1. There was this really cool moment tonight when I was looking north
and there was all this lightning in the sky up that way. On my iPod,
Michael Gungor Band's "Ancient Skies" was playing. There was a really
cool connection for moment. One of those that can't be orchestrated and
you kind of just have to be there for.
2. A little over halfway through my run, I was on an uphill. As soon as
I noticed that I was having to work harder to keep pace, I also noticed
that I was looking down at the sidewalk. I thought it might inspire me
more to fix my eyes on the top of the hill. And sure enough, the moment
I did that, I felt better and the road seemed to kind of open up for me
on the other side. My mind was going crazy thinking about the
difference in looking where I am right now as opposed to looking ahead.
I thought I was learning some kind of life lesson about vision or
leadership or the journey or something. Before I knew it, I had this
whole idea brewing about what that could mean for life, bla bla bla.
And then a low hanging twig from a tree limb hit me in the face.
I guess that means it is more like "both / and."
So I guess that about sums it up. It was a good run. And it made me appropriately sleepy. I think I will sleep OK tonight.
Later,
G

I can run the distance of about 15 houses... haha..Ah, the triumph of five miles ... and the suckage of low-hanging branches.
Running 5 miles is AWESOME, Greggo! What a great accomplishment. I totally hear you on the "all purchases are temporarily on hold" front. Same here. Not for the same joyous reasons, however, but I'm sure some of our reasons are in sync.
*shakes fist at no one in particular*
